Full description
Overlooking Mt. Ibuki, a small settlement along a creek. Against the backdrop of a satoyama carefully nurtured by the community, we introduce a luxurious traditional Japanese house with the classic 'four-room tatami layout plus extras.' Taking a step into this place, a slow and careful lifestyle will surely begin. Experience satoyama living. The main house entrance features bengaralacquer, a traditional finish in the Kohoku region with insect-repellent properties. The calm red color perfectly complements the house's dignity. Red accents appear here and there on the house's pillars, adding a stylish touch. The large entrance vestibule is perfect for winter activities like rope-making, mochi-pounding, and persimmon-drying, or summer activities like water bathing and onion-growing. It has wooden shelving like a modern shoe closet, very fashionable! The layout consists of four traditional tatami rooms in a 'field-grid' style, plus a small tatami room, kitchen, and veranda, leading through a corridor to the annex dwelling with two more tatami rooms, a luxurious design. The transoms, fittings, and sliding doors are meticulously crafted with charming designs. Features: [Bengaralacquer] Excellent design and practical insect repellent. [Traditional Japanese house] Field-grid tatami layout with veranda, providing relaxed comfort. Excellent natural light and ventilation. [Spacious vestibule] Wooden shelving like a modern shoe closet for storing shoes, boots, outdoor gear, umbrellas, and coats. Surroundings: Near a creek where fireflies dance. At the foot of a well-maintained satoyama, rich in nature. Even on snowy days, snow removal vehicles clear early, providing peace of mind. Excellent sunlight. Adjacent garden plot with good sunlight and well-maintained landscaping. The annex has two tatami rooms on the first floor and a large unfurnished space on the second floor, facing the street with good light, suitable as a work room for those working from home. It also has a veranda! A water house on the grounds has access to groundwater. However, only urinals are present for toilet facilities, so some plumbing renovation is needed. The settlement is divided into several groups, with festival responsibilities rotated by group. There are road and water-channel maintenance (mizobushin) and summer festivals, allowing good community connection and participation in traditional events. The landlord is a key local figure. 'I've done community association work for many years to make the area more livable. This house has been passed down through generations, so I'd be delighted to welcome someone who will use it.' The moment you cross the small bridge, the pleasant scent of forest trees greets you, and you understand what 'fresh air' truly means! Walking a little further, you see a shrine and feel a spiritual welcome from the forest's deity. Meeting the landlord for the first time was heartwarming, they spoke freely and openly, quickly putting us at ease. Adapting to rural settlements depends on connecting with local key figures like this landlord, making this settlement especially recommended. On this sun-filled veranda, you'll want to spend entire days lazing about, such a lovely home!

Area and hazard data
A pre-1981 build predates Japan's current earthquake code, which can matter for insurance and renovation. We flag the era from the year built where we have it.
Municipal conditions and restrictions
Some towns attach conditions to an empty-home purchase, for example a residency requirement or farmland-law (nochi-ho) approval, which is a local sign-off needed before farmland can change hands or use. These come from the source listing.
- Expected to participate in community organization and cooperate with shared maintenance work and traditional events
Always confirm the current conditions with the town before you commit.
