A sale property in Sakae-machi. A traditional-looking old house in a residential area. Though traditional in appearance, with some renovation it could become a comfortable, modern living space. What kind of lifestyle would you imagine from this house? / Featured Property Report: Himi City's Sakae-machi area is located on the north side of Himi's central shopping district. Along streets near the sea, old-fashioned shops and charming houses stand side by side, while new residential developments have brought newer houses to the area. Today we introduce one property in such a residential neighborhood. Directly across from the building is a municipal housing complex. The photo below shows the view from a second-floor window, beyond the complex is the direction toward the sea. Let's take a look inside. It's built in the traditional Himi townhouse style. The earthen-floor entrance (doma) is spacious enough to accommodate bicycles. The three traditional Japanese rooms we can see lead to a garden at the back, and light comes in, so the typical lighting issue of townhouses isn't much of a problem. Right after entering, there are four connected Japanese rooms; the second one is photographed from the opposite direction to the street. It seems the owner previously used the front as a study and the back area like a living room. Moving further in, there's a kitchen space. It faces the central courtyard and has windows on the opposite side too, so it's very bright. The facilities work as-is, but refurbishing the plumbing would make it an even nicer space. Continuing further back, there are two more Japanese rooms. But what's noteworthy is this hallway. In the photo you can see a cabinet on the left, a clever use of kitchen space. And further back are facing armchairs and a small table. This hallway is a bit wider and faces the central courtyard, so the lighting is perfect. Did the residents take breakfast here? Or on a peaceful afternoon, did they enjoy tea, reading, or conversation? Working your imagination this way, wondering how you'd use the space yourself, that's one of the pleasures of old houses. Going up the stairs to the second floor. Upon reaching the top, the first impression is like a slightly exciting secret room. Perhaps because one room's shape has its corner cut off. Perhaps because of a retro car calendar that catches the eye. In any case, it's clearly a private space. The back room could be a bedroom, the front room a hobby room... there's pleasure in imagining lazy days in your own personal space. Now let's turn our attention outside the building. This is a photo from a second-floor window looking toward the back. You can see both the central courtyard and the surrounding houses. We showed a photo of the housing complex across the way at the beginning, but from these photos you might get the impression of an ordinary residential area. But don't worry. The sea is just beyond, head to the main street in front and you're there. Himi-no-e Park with its grassy lawns is less than a five-minute walk. Quiet living in a residential neighborhood, and whenever you feel like it, a walk to the seaside. Oh, and don't forget the recommended point. Along the street heading toward the sea is a local favorite restaurant. Known for being inexpensive and delicious. Another reason to look forward to a weekend walk.
