Stepping into the garden welcomes you with seasonal flowers. The front garden features a large Chinese parasol tree, along with azaleas, plane trees, magnolias, dogwoods, crape myrtles, rose of Sharon, hydrangeas, sweet olives, sasanqua, mock privet, boxwood, Japanese maple, pines, aucuba, and cypress trees. In the middle of the field is one amanatsu citrus tree, and in the corners are figs, yuzu, two kumquats, snow-in-summer, two sasanqua, and irises. Behind the house are two zelkovas, tea plants, persimmon trees, Rikyuu plum (not actually plum), camellias, a species of fern, flowering quince, Japanese spirea, Japanese pepper trees, and some wild raspberries. And then a bamboo grove. / The garden flowers bring color to life. When I was a child, we kept three chickens and during the day they roamed freely; I remember collecting eggs they laid in the bamboo grove, the owner recalls fondly. / Besides the entrance and kitchen, there are two 6-mat rooms, one 4.5-mat room, and one 3-mat room. (The 3-mat room was added later with a separate entrance.) / Condition: renovation/repair needed. / Water features require personal coordination. Washbasin and changing area. Pit toilet with retro charm. Traditional bathing area. / Each building holds history. Owner's memories: playing in sand, playing hide-and-seek, touching flowers, blowing bubbles, and playing with many things. A one-person swing hung from a loquat tree was a favorite. There were years when zinnias and cosmos bloomed abundantly, which was beautiful. In spring, bamboo shoots grow constantly and are shared with many people; I now harvest them myself. Nightingales land on bamboo and sing beautifully. The summer chorus of cicadas, though brief, feels pleasant when considering their short lives rather than noisy. Autumn evenings bring calming insect sounds. Managing many trees, bamboo grove, and grass is difficult for amateurs, especially in summer; hornet nests constantly appear in various places, and centipedes emerge causing frightening moments. Cars cannot enter the garden, and there are many inconveniences, but I earnestly hope someone will appear who wishes to inherit and nurture this location's rich natural plant environment. I hope the fruit trees that have grown to bearing age and rare Rikyuu plum with beautiful flowers will not be cut down and will remain safely as long as possible.
