About this home

From the listing At the top of the foothills. This property is located where Yamano Castle, built by the Yamano clan (relatives of the lord of Oguchi Castle), stands. In the Edo period, "Yamano foothills" were said to be nearby. A gentle uphill path at the gate, there is enough width for a light truck, though larger vehicles may find it difficult. Sitting atop a hill, the property enjoys excellent sunlight and ventilation, with a pleasant atmosphere that invites deep breathing. During a visit in late May, the Sichuan pepper tree in the yard bore abundant fruit with a refreshing fragrance. Farm tools such as a grass cutter in the barn can be transferred to the buyer. A 4.5-tatami living room where you can eat mandarin oranges by a sunken kotatsu in winter or enjoy leisurely Sichuan pepper work in the current season. A kitchen with glass fixtures and conveniently installed shelving. Bathroom, washbasin, and washing machine area grouped together. The bath uses hybrid gas and wood-fired heating. Inside are two 8-tatami Japanese rooms and one each of 4.5-tatami and 3-tatami Japanese rooms, a comfortable size for a single household or couple. The charming Western-style entrance on the east side provides convenient access to the well and back mountain. The well pump is currently broken; consider utilizing well water for field work and emergency situations. Behind the house are several plum trees, all well-maintained for easy harvesting, plum work should progress smoothly. Among the rows of plum trees, there is an open flat area in the center, can you guess what it is? It is actually the site of an old railroad track. The former Yamano Line railroad bed, which connected Minamata to Kurino, remains behind the house, even non-railroad enthusiasts feel the romance. The old Nishi-Yamano Station site is nearby too. Samurai mansions and abandoned rail lines, what a romantic region, Yamano is wonderful! / The property is an old house and is almost never in perfect condition like a new building. Before viewing or purchasing, please confirm detailed property information with the real estate agent or owner, and consider the purchase only after full understanding.

Official records

Area and hazard data

6 checks clear, 1 to know about. Each check is against a government map for this exact point. Where a map is missing or we can't use it, we say so; that never means there's no risk.

To know about

  • Earthquake code

    Caution

Built before the 1981 earthquake code. Expect a structural survey, harder mortgages, and a retrofit budget; towns often grant part of that cost.

    Source: Estimated from year built

A pre-1981 build predates Japan's current earthquake code, which can matter for insurance and renovation. We flag the era from the year built where we have it.

Checks clear

  • Strong-earthquake chance

    Checked, clear

About 1% chance of a strong quake (shindo 6-lower or above) in 30 years, low for Japan, where most places sit between 3% and 26%

    Source: National earthquake-hazard model

  • Landslide risk

    Checked, clear

Checked: no designated landslide zone at this location. Zone edges are approximate, and this is not a legal property disclosure document.

    Source: Government hazard map

  • Flood risk

    Checked, clear

Checked: outside a mapped flood area. The maps cover designated rivers only, so this is not a promise of no flooding.

    Source: Government hazard map

  • Tsunami risk

    Checked, clear

Checked: no designated tsunami inundation zone at this location

    Source: Government hazard map

  • Liquefaction

    Checked, clear

Low liquefaction susceptibility for the ground here

    Source: National landform survey

  • Farmland rules

    Checked, clear

Checked: not in a designated farmland zone
