In 1360 (Enbunshin 5), a descendant of Hachiman Taro Yoshiie, Genjiro Yoshitaka, came from Oshu and built a stronghold in a place called Todoroki; later in 1362 (Joji 1) he relocated it to this location on Sawaguchi Mountain. Taking the land's name, he became known as Saruhane Harima-no-kami Genjiro Yoshitaka, and thereafter the Saruhane clan's fortress, ruling 6,700 koku across seven generations until 1589 (Tensho 17), a span of 227 years. / The Tomita district is a fitting vantage point for oversight. The views encompass Mount Chokai (Dewa Fuji) and the sacred peak of Mount Gassan, with the Mogami River spreading below; the fertile character of the land befits its name Tomita (abundant field). / This elevated, two-story mansion conveys historic charm.
