Full description
Compact yet elegantly appointed like an inn. A detached house set back one street from the coastal road overlooking Dogoji Island. The gate is positioned further along a side road heading up the hillside; beyond it, a courtyard leads to the main residence with an atmosphere preserved from the mid-Showa era. The outbuilding positioned on the courtyard-facing side is a clean one-room space, concrete-built and relatively recent, very well-maintained. This outbuilding also provides windbreaks from the sea. Together, the main house and outbuilding offer a compact experience of past and present. The main residence's roof was re-shingled with traditional Japanese tiles over a decade ago, providing peace of mind. The main residence, the center of daily life, is a two-story structure; the second floor has the ambiance of an inn room with careful decorative attention. There are unusually two sets of stairs leading to the second floor. / Storage and farmland included. The previous owner cultivated citrus; though currently overgrown, farmland remains along with agricultural storage buildings, ample space for farm tool storage. In front of the house is garden space sufficient for vegetable growing, with the sea just beyond. / The property has been well-maintained and is in good overall condition, though some age-appropriate wear is visible. / Surrounding environment: Though administratively part of Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, Tsuwaji Island is located on the border between Hiroshima and Yamaguchi prefectures. Primary industries include onion cultivation, fishing, and citrus growing. Ferry access from Matsuyama port takes 2 hours (1 hour by express boat). The island has genuine countryside character and isolation, is extremely quiet, ideal for escaping social bustle. Good for sea-lovers; worth considering as a vacation home. Several shops exist on the island, though large purchases and emergencies involve geographic inconvenience. Tsuwaji Island has an inn, so prospective residents are strongly advised to stay several times before committing. The elementary school closed in 2017 (Heisei 29). / Recommendation points: Includes furnishings; large vegetable garden space; close to port / Repairs needed: Water stains on bathroom floor from leakage (leak location unknown)

Area and hazard data
- About 280.0 km from the coast
- About 269.7 km to the nearest primary school
A pre-1981 build predates Japan's current earthquake code, which can matter for insurance and renovation. We flag the era from the year built where we have it.

Municipal conditions and restrictions
Some towns attach conditions to an empty-home purchase, for example a residency requirement or farmland-law (nochi-ho) approval, which is a local sign-off needed before farmland can change hands or use. These come from the source listing.
- Rebuilding may be difficult due to designation as a non-urbanization promotion district
Always confirm the current conditions with the town before you commit.
