Full description
Distinctive red tin roof. A wooden pestle from the ceremonial roof-raising is displayed above the entrance. The floor plan features a spacious entrance earth floor and through-passage earth floor, leading to an earth-floor kitchen deeper inside. Five tatami rooms. Ground floor serves as living area, second floor as bedrooms. The ground-floor Japanese room consists of three irregularly arranged connected rooms (4.5 tatami, 6 tatami, 4 tatami) in an L-shape, with bright light from the back garden. Second floor has two connected rooms with large chests of drawers; the 8-tatami room features an alcove and extensive storage. The view from the second floor is appealing, just across the road is a river, with rice paddies and mountains beyond in a layered, beautiful landscape. The earth-floor kitchen needs repairs but has a traditional stove. Bath has gas water heating. Toilet is squat-style with pit collection. For comfortable living, a septic tank system and flush toilet are recommended. The village offers subsidy programs for septic-tank installation and other renovation work. There is also a toilet on the second floor. Behind the building is a spacious garden with a fine storehouse. Outbuildings and vegetable garden are also present.
