This marks an approximate area, not the exact building. The circle is a rough radius from the listing's published address, so you can see the neighbourhood without us guessing at a precise spot.

Full description

Two-property set consisting of an annex facing the street and a main house set back slightly. The annex, once used as a restaurant and inn, faces the middle road with good vehicle access; the second floor has views of the sea. Only kitchen has running water; no bath; toilet not usable. Kitchen very old, requiring major renovation for comfortable use. Second floor in relatively good condition; light cleaning would enable immediate occupancy. Following a narrow lane uphill leads to a single-story main house, approximately 100 years old. Formerly a prepared-food shop, hence the spacious kitchen. Bathroom and toilet area added with concrete; evidence of rain leaks at the seams (cause known, repair appears straightforward). The layout and details throughout convey nostalgic charm, bearing the gravitas of surviving the Showa and Heisei eras. During the 2018 Western Japan heavy rains, sediment flowed beneath the floor and partially above; structural inspection shows no skeletal damage, property remains sound. Main house requires remediation: kitchen, bath, toilet old but functional; rain leaks require urgent repair; substantial debris clearance needed; light termite damage visible in several places but columns solid and house shows minimal tilt; 15 cm of sediment remains under floor from flooding but no subsequent moisture buildup; wood not rotted. Overall 100-year wear throughout; full refurbishment of walls and floors would affect most areas. Annex requires urgent roof-tile repair where pieces threaten to fall; safety measures advised. Built roughly 70 years ago, considerable renovation needed for residential or commercial use. In 2024, fire occurred behind the property, destroying neighboring houses, but this house sustained near-total preservation (slight external char and water damage from firefighting). Rear area now empty plaza-like.

Area and hazard data

Landslide risk
Data not available
Flood risk
Data not available
Tsunami risk
Data not available
Strong-earthquake chance
About 13% chance of a strong quake (shindo 6-lower or above) in 30 years
Source: National earthquake-hazard model
Earthquake code
Built before the 1981 earthquake code (older seismic standard)
Source: Estimated from year built
  • About 273.9 km from the coast
  • About 259.0 km to the nearest primary school

A pre-1981 build predates Japan's current earthquake code, which can matter for insurance and renovation. We flag the era from the year built where we have it.

Municipal conditions and restrictions

Some towns attach conditions to an empty-home purchase, for example a residency requirement or farmland-law (nochi-ho) approval, which is a local sign-off needed before farmland can change hands or use. These come from the source listing.

  • Can be shared by multiple people
  • Pets allowed

Always confirm the current conditions with the town before you commit.
